On Wednesday 9 March we inspected buses at Melbourne airport (Tullamarine) in a joint operation with Victoria Police Heavy Vehicle Unit and the Australian Federal Police.

A total of 51 buses were checked and we found:

  • four people driving commercial minibuses without being accredited
  • one probationary driver who did not have our permission to be driving
  • nine buses without an operating fire extinguisher – which may lead to the operators being issued with infringement notices
  • one commercial minibus operator using a 14 seat vehicle instead of one with seating capacity for a maximum of 12.

Joint operations like this are one of our most important bus safety compliance activities and bus operators should expect to see us anywhere, anytime. We work to ensure that the many visitors to Victoria who take bus trips have a positive experience underpinned by safe travel.
