Thousands of boating enthusiasts dropped their anchors at the 2025 Melbourne Boat Show to connect with our team and brush up on their pre-season safety knowledge.

More than a thousand visitors stopped by Safe Transport Victoria’s interactive stand to snap an instant photo in the special boat-shaped photobooth (complete with nautical props) which linked through to the Back to Basics program, urging boaters to check their vessels and equipment ahead of summer.

Many boaters admitted they weren’t confident in inspecting their inflatable lifejackets for wear and tear – giving ST Vic experts the perfect opportunity to run hands-on demonstrations and boost safety awareness one jacket at a time.

Crowds also gathered for daily main-stage sessions sharing practical safety tips, with Saturday’s session featuring special guest star Peter Ferguson of Fishin’ With Fergy a real highlight.

The new branded tote bags, Back to Basics safety checklists, and minimum equipment stickers were in high demand, with visitors often taking extras to share with family and friends.

Another hot topic? Expired flares. Many boaters weren’t sure where to dispose of them, prompting ST Vic staff to explain correct drop-off locations and highlight ongoing flare-safety advice.

Boat shows are a great opportunity to speak directly to boaters about important safety issues, and Safe Transport Victoria has a presence at many boating-related community events throughout the year.
