TSV conducted an unannounced bus depot inspection on 18 July.
The inspections of eight buses uncovered three with defects.
- One unregistered bus with a very poor brake pedal.
- One bus with the driver’s seatbelt not retracting, oil leaks, and engine in poor condition.
- One bus with three worn tyres, and a wiring module hanging in the driver’s foot well.
Of the six trailers inspected, TSV found four with defects.
- A trailer fitted with the incorrect size of tyres.
- A trailer with a cracked chassis draw bar.
- A trailer with cracked chassis hinges, wheels sticking out of guards and unsecured wiring.
- A trailer with a nonfunctioning brake system.
All defective buses and trailers were required to be cleared with full roadworthy certificates.
Other recent operations
In July, TSV also conducted operations at Bungaree Weighbridge (near Ballarat) and the Melbourne Airport bus holding area.
At the end of June, TSV and Victoria Police from Port Campbell inspected 35 buses over two days on the Great Ocean Road.
The activity found two unaccredited operators and an unregistered operator.
TSV issued three infringements notices for fire extinguisher offences, and VicPol issued four infringement notices resulting in fines.
