The M4 West Gate Tunnel is opening in December and will provide a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge and quicker and safer journeys to and from the west.

New twin tunnels under Yarraville and a bridge over the Maribyrnong River will provide drivers with more direct connections between the west and the city; while new express lanes on the M1 West Gate Freeway will keep traffic moving between the M80 Ring Road and the West Gate Bridge.

To choose the West Gate Tunnel, drivers will need to be in the far left hand lanes on the Princes Freeway or M80 Ring Road. Then once they come out of the tunnel, they will be able take exits to Dynon Road, Footscray Road, Wurundjeri Way or CityLink.

When it opens, the West Gate Tunnel will be electronically tolled. Toll prices are based on your vehicle type, along with where and how far you travel. You’ll find toll points for light vehicles located in the West Gate Tunnel and on new ramps between the West Gate Freeway and Hyde Street in Spotswood.

There will also be a morning peak toll point located at the city west exits of Footscray Road, Wurundjeri Way and Dynon Road, for weekday travel between 7–9am.

The AM peak toll is designed to help improve traffic flow during peak times and will be in addition to the West Gate Tunnel toll. Learn more here Light vehicles – Linkt

The most convenient way to pay for toll travel is to open a Linkt account, which will equip you to travel on both CityLink and the West Gate Tunnel. linkt.com.au/westgatetunnel
