On Friday 20 November, Bus Safety Victoria joined forces with Victoria Police to conduct an undercover operation targeting non-compliant tour bus operators at the Twelve Apostles.

A total of 21 tour buses were inspected at a checkpoint outside the popular tourist attraction. Two buses were issued with defect notices for unroadworthy tyres and four infringements are being considered for non-compliance issues relating to fire extinguishers and work diaries. All matters will be followed up with the bus operators to reduce likelihood of future non-compliance.

To raise awareness about the importance of these activities we invited a 9 News Melbourne journalist and camera crew along to observe the activity.

Joint undercover operations like this are one of our most important bus safety compliance activities. Last year, we ran similar operations in 14 locations around the State, many of them targeting tour bus operators. A total of 130 warnings were given, and 21 infringements issued, mainly for unroadworthiness.
