Risk of failure of door sensitive edge.
On 8 June 2016, a passenger sustained serious injuries as a result of becoming trapped in the rear door of a route bus and dragged for approximately 20 metres.
The investigation conducted by the operator found that the rear door sensitive edge was faulty, possibly as a result of the sensitive edge resistor experiencing vibration or becoming loose.
Bus operators should:
- Ensure that drivers check all mirrors before departing a bus stop, and
- Where applicable, test the operation of the door sensitive edges and consult with the original equipment manufacturer should a fault be detected.
